COVID-19:46 new cases, positivity at 2.0%

The Ministry of Health on Monday announced that 12,252,574 vaccines have been administered across the country.

Of these, the ministry said,6,521,728 are partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated are 5,520,712.

In a statement to the newsroom, the ministry said that 46 people tested positive for COVID-19 from a sample size of 2,324 tested in the last 24 hours, marking a positivity rate of 2.0 percent.

Of the cases, 41 are Kenyans while 5 are foreigners; 23 are males and 23 are females. The youngest is a three-year-old child while the oldest is 91 years.

Total confirmed positive cases are now 321,381 while cumulative tests so far conducted are at 3,222,886.

In terms of county distribution, Nairobi is leading with 33 cases, Nyeri 3,Siaya 2,Nyandarua 2,Uasin Gishu 1,Bomet 1,Kajiado 1,Kirinyaga 1,Meru 1 and Mombasa 1

The Ministry said 107 patients recovered from the disease, 93 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program, and 14 were discharged from various health facilities countrywide. Total recoveries rose to 294,722.

Three patients are reported to have succumbed to the coronavirus disease, one of them in the last 24 hours, while the other two are late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits in January, 2022. This pushes the cumulative fatalities to 5,583.

“A total of 438 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 4,602 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program,” noted Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe in a statement to newsrooms.

“11 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), all of them are on ventilatory support.”

Another 92 patients are on supplemental oxygen and 90 of them are in the general wards. Two patients are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).”
