COVID-19: Kenya Records 121 New Cases

The Ministry of Health on Saturday announced that 121 people have tested positive for COVID-19 from a sample size of 6,454 tested in the last 24 hours, marking a positivity rate of 1.9 percent.

“Of the cases, 76 are Kenyans while 45 are foreigners; 66 are males and 55 are females. The youngest is a two-year-old child while the oldest is 96 years old.” Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said in a statement on Saturday.

This now brings the total number of cases recorded to 322,043 out of the 3,254,043 tests conducted so far.

In terms of county distribution, Nairobi county is leading with 76,Uasin Gishu 12,Mombasa 6,Nakuru 4,Kiambu 3,Busia 2,Siaya 2,Tharaka Nithi 2,Laikipia 2,Nandi 2,Elgeyo Marakwet 2,Garissa,Kakamega,Kirinyaga,Kwale,Narok,Nyamiira,Nyandarua and Nyeri each 1 case.

The Cabinet Secretary said that 117 recoveries had been recorded out of which 90 are from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 27 are from various health facilities countrywide. Total recoveries now stand at 295,697.

Three patients succumbed to the disease, all of them being late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits in the month of January 2022. Cumulative fatalities stand at 5,607. 

The Ministry also stated that 260 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 3,946 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

“7 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), all of them are on ventilatory support. Another 68 patients are on supplemental oxygen. 66 of them are in the general wards while two patients are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU),” read the statement.

The ministry of health said that a total of 13,399,285 vaccines have been administered across the country. Of these 6,850,456 are partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated are 6,146,074.
