DCI Launches Probe After EACC Officers Attacked in Trans Nzoia

Trans Nzoia County, Kenya – May 19, 2025

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched an in-depth investigation following a violent incident in Trans Nzoia County, where officers from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) were obstructed while executing court-sanctioned search warrants.

According to the EACC, the officers were acting on a legal mandate to investigate allegations of “irregular procurement and fictitious payments amounting to KSh 1.4 billion by the Trans Nzoia County Government that occurred during the financial years 2022/2023 and 2024/2025.”

The operation targeted multiple locations, including the residence and office of Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, as well as properties linked to four other individuals under investigation.

EACC officials reported that “the search at Governor Natembeya’s residence was conducted in the presence of family members, the county attorney, and legal representatives.” However, the exercise was violently interrupted when “a hostile group of individuals forcibly entered the premises.”

The assailants, described as aggressive and coordinated, reportedly “overpowered the security personnel assigned to safeguard the operation, maliciously damaging five EACC vehicles and stealing seized items and other valuables from the vehicles.”

In a statement, the Commission described the attack as “a blatant attempt to undermine the rule of law and obstruct justice.” The DCI confirmed that it “has launched investigations to identify and bring to book the perpetrators behind this attack.”

No arrests have been made so far, but authorities have vowed swift action to ensure accountability. The EACC has reiterated its commitment to fight corruption, warning that interference with its officers will not go unpunished.

Further updates will be provided as investigations continue
