Gameto to Eradicate menopause

Menopause is a subject that keeps ringing in most women’s head. Especially when you clock 45 years and above. When gospel artiste Guardian Angel announced his marriage to his 52 year old sweetheart, Esther Musila, people kept on asking if they will be able to have kids.

Menopause is the time of life when a woman’s ovaries stop producing hormones and menstrual periods stop.

Natural menopause can take place from 40 years to 50 years of age.

A woman is said to be in menopause when she has not had her periods for 12 months in a row.

Symptoms of menopause may include hot flashes, mood swings, night sweats, vaginal dryness, trouble concentrating, and infertility.

Gameto, a biotechnology start-up company in the US is making attempts to solve the aging of ovaries, menopause.

It has so far raised $20 million to fund the scientific program.

It plans on reprogramming ovarian cells thereby delaying the reproductive period among women.

The CEO of Gameto Dr. Dona Radenkovic, a medical doctor from Serbia says the aim is to change the narrative of female reproductive period which will in turn address the root cause of gender inequality.

“Ovaries age five times faster than other organs resulting to infertility, early menopause and increased poor health among women” Dr. Dina Radenkovic said.

Initial research has been conducted at the George Church lab at Harvard Medical School and Gameto has received positive results in creating the first human reprogrammed cells of the ovary (granulosa and oocytes precursors) to solve the problem of increased ovarian aging.

The program also aims at reducing the number of IVF cycles that women endure and level the rate of ovarian aging with other organs on the body such as the liver and the skin.
