Former Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa has fired back at Cabinet Secretary for Health Aden Duale, accusing him of privately describing President William Ruto as “heartless” and “ungrateful” after he was moved from the Ministry of Defence.

Jumwa made the allegations while responding to recent remarks by Duale, who claimed that he used to help her read and understand Cabinet papers when they served together in President Ruto’s Cabinet.

Duale, speaking in Mombasa on Saturday, August 15, 2026, claimed that Jumwa sometimes struggled to read and explain Cabinet documents during Cabinet meetings.

“Ule alikuwa katika cabinet hata kusoma cabinet paper ilikuwa ni shida. Mimi ndio nilikuwa namsaidia kumsoma. I used to help her to read the Cabinet paper for her,” Duale said.

Jumwa has now responded with a series of allegations of her own, turning the spotlight on what she claims Duale told her privately following his removal from the Defence docket.

Aisha Jumwa Accuses Health CS Aden Duale of Calling Ruto ‘Heartless’ After Cabinet Reshuffle

Jumwa claims Duale criticised Ruto

Addressing Duale directly, Jumwa alleged that the current Health CS called her after the Cabinet changes and expressed deep frustration with President Ruto.

“Wewe, Aden Duale, wakati ulitolewa Ministry of Defence ukapelekwa Environment, ulinipigia simu ukaniambia wewe mwenyewe kwamba William Ruto hana roho, hana shukrani, ni mtu mbaya sana,” Jumwa alleged.

Duale served as Defence Cabinet Secretary before he was moved to the Environment docket. He was later appointed Cabinet Secretary for Health, a position he currently holds. Recent government and media reports continue to identify him as the Health CS.

Jumwa further alleged that Duale was unhappy with Ruto’s decision to appoint Soipan Tuya to the Defence Ministry after his departure.

“Ati amechukua Defence akapatia girlfriend yake, Tuya,” she claimed.

‘You called Ruto heartless’

Jumwa went on to accuse Duale of using harsh language against the President during their alleged private conversation.

“It was you, Aden Duale, who told me Ruto is heartless na ukamwita majina yote mabaya,” Jumwa said.

She insisted that she was speaking truthfully and invoked her faith while repeating the allegations.

“Naongea hivi nikiwa kwenye madhabahu ya Mungu, hivo ndivyo uliniambia kuhusu William Ruto,” she added.

Jumwa also alleged that Duale accused the President of giving influential government positions to women he described as his girlfriends.

“Ulisema anapea girlfriends zake kazi kubwa kubwa kwa serikali,” she claimed.

Fresh political war between Jumwa and Duale

The exchange marks a sharp escalation in the public war of words between the two former Cabinet colleagues.

Duale’s remarks about Jumwa came amid a broader political confrontation following her departure from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and her increasingly independent political positioning ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Jumwa, who previously served as Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Performance and Delivery Management before leaving government, has since openly criticised some of her former political allies.

Her latest response suggests that the dispute with Duale could go beyond their disagreement over Cabinet papers, with Jumwa now putting alleged private conversations involving President Ruto at the centre of the confrontation.

Duale yet to respond to Jumwa’s allegations

Jumwa’s claims about what Duale allegedly told her about President Ruto have not been independently verified.

Duale’s response to the specific allegations would be necessary to establish his account of the alleged conversation.

The latest exchange comes as Duale continues to serve as Health Cabinet Secretary and remains an active political voice in the Kenya Kwanza administration. Recent reports show him engaging in political and national policy debates in his current capacity as Health CS.
