The Cabinet Secretary for Energy Davis Chirchir has said that the price of fuel is likely to rise to Sh 300 in the coming EPRA review
Chirchir said that the price increase was due to the war between Israel and Hamas could see fuel rise to 150 USD per litre if the situation in the Middle East persists
“Price of Super Petrol is likely to rise to Ksh. 300 a liter in the coming EPRA fuel prices review due to the Israel-Hamas war which has profoundly affected supply in the Middle East.” The CS said.
The prices will be inclusive of the 16 per cent Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2020 and the revised rates for excise duty adjusted for inflation
“We cannot do anything about the global pricing of petroleum which has soared from 70 dollars per barrel to 80 dollars and then to 90 dollars,” CS Chirchir told the National Dialogue Committee.
In Kenya, fuel prices have hit an all-time high per liter since the Kenya Kwanza government came into office
The news has elicited mixed reactions from Kenyans of all walks of life
