Win For Ruto As Karungo wa Thang’wa Cleared By IEBC

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has cleared Paul Karungo wa Thang’wa the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) senatorial candidate

The former Kiambu County Executive Committee Member for Youth Affairs had been locked out from the August 9 senate race after IEBC Dispute Resolution Committee edged him out on the basis that his removal from office meant he was unfit to hold public office.

However, the High court came to Wa Thang’was rescue after it quashed the decision by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) dispute resolution committee to bar him from vying.

The Court said that the move to bar him over grounds that he is unfit to hold public office having been impeached holds no grounds.

“The refusal by the 1st respondent (IEBC) to clear Exparte applicant (Thang’wa) as a candidate for Senate position in Kiambu County was irrational, unreasonable and unfair,” read the ruling in partners

The court ordered the Kiambu County Returning Officer to issue Thang’wa with a clearance certificate to vie for the Kiambu Senator seat.

The race to succeed the outgoing Senator Kimani Wamatangi has attracted several candidates including; businessman George Maara (Jubilee), Irungu Gathii (Tujibebe Party), and Mutonya Njenga (Chama Cha Kazi) among others.
