A body of a man was on Tuesday recovered from an unfinished building in Nairobi, an incident that has sparked shock and emotional reactions from Pastor Victor Kanyari, who said the deceased was a member of his church congregation.
According to preliminary reports, the man’s body was discovered inside the unfinished structure under unclear circumstances. Authorities are yet to release an official statement on the cause of death, and investigations are expected to determine what happened.
Pastor Kanyari said he was saddened to learn that the deceased had been attending his church, noting that he was not aware of the man’s struggles or personal situation.
“I have been told that he was a member of my church and I didn’t know. I could have helped him,” he said.

The televangelist added that the man had occasionally taken part in his church’s welfare programmes, including food distribution initiatives.
“The old man used to come here for unga every Wednesday and Sunday. If he had voiced the challenges he was going through, we would have helped,” Kanyari said.
He further stated that the deceased had also benefited from a programme where vulnerable elderly members of society receive support for Social Health Authority (SHA) insurance contributions.
Beyond the incident, Kanyari used the moment to call on families to take better care of elderly relatives, warning against neglect and abandonment.
“I would like to urge all children to take care of your parents. Don’t abandon your parents because it is the only commandment that comes with a promise,” he said.
He also encouraged young people to focus on responsibility and family support, urging them to avoid what he described as distractions such as alcohol, partying, and unhealthy relationships.
Meanwhile, Kanyari also made remarks questioning leadership in Kasarani Constituency, suggesting that elected leaders should be more responsive to residents’ needs. However, these claims could not be independently verified, and local leadership had not responded by the time of publication.
Police are expected to provide further details as investigations into the incident continue, including identification and determination of the cause of death.
The incident has drawn concern among residents and congregants, with calls for improved community support systems for vulnerable individuals living in urban informal settings.
