Operations in Bungoma Town came to a sudden stop on Monday morning after a group of cleaners took to the streets in protest over delayed salaries. The workers, employed by Evable Company Limited, say they have gone without pay for four consecutive months.
In a dramatic display of frustration, the cleaners dumped garbage along key entry points into the town, creating unsightly scenes and bringing traffic to a crawl. The heaps of waste stretched for nearly six kilometers, blocking roads and forcing motorists to swerve through debris-filled paths.

Movement along the Northern Corridor, a major transport route, was severely disrupted. Trucks, public service vehicles, and pedestrians were all caught in the chaos. Street children joined the protest, echoing the workers’ demand for immediate compensation.
“We’re tired of empty promises. We have families to take care of, rent to pay, and children in school,” one protester said during a press briefing.

The group chanted slogans like “We want justice!” as they continued to scatter trash through the town’s main streets. The stench quickly spread, with passersby and business owners expressing concern over the unhygienic conditions.
Efforts to reach the contractor responsible for the workers proved futile. According to several employees, the individual shut down the company office two months ago and has remained unreachable since.
As garbage piled up and tempers flared, businesses remained shuttered and residents watched helplessly, hoping for a swift resolution to the escalating crisis.
