The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has issued a disciplinary notice to Kakamega Senator Dr. Boni Khalwale, accusing him of disloyalty and gross misconduct for allegedly supporting a rival party’s candidate in the Malava Constituency by-election.
In a letter dated October 9, 2025, and signed by UDA Disciplinary Committee Chairperson Charles Njenga, the ruling party cites “open, vocal, conspicuous and substantial” support by the senator for a candidate from another political formation, which it says undermines the UDA candidate and the party’s interests.
The party states that Dr. Khalwale’s public involvement in the campaigns of a rival candidate constitutes “allegiance to another political party” and therefore amounts to conduct unbecoming and disloyalty to UDA, which sponsored him to the Senate.
The letter further notes that his actions violate the UDA Constitution, the party’s Code of Conduct, and his oath of office, which obligate members to uphold party discipline and promote its agenda.

According to the disciplinary committee, the senator’s conduct represents gross misconduct as contemplated under Articles 68 and 69 of the party constitution.
“Your said participation and activities clearly demonstrate allegiance to another political party and constitute conduct unbecoming and disloyalty to the United Democratic Alliance Party,” the letter reads in part.
The committee accuses the senator of acting contrary to the expected conduct of a UDA member, emphasizing that he is required to observe discipline, popularize the party, and comply with party decisions.

The disciplinary committee has given the senator fourteen days to respond and show cause why disciplinary action should not be taken against him. Should the committee find sufficient grounds to proceed, it will issue formal summons for his appearance before it.
“You are entitled to represent yourself or appear with your advocate,” the letter concludes.
Dr. Khalwale, a seasoned politician and one of the most vocal figures in Western Kenya politics, currently serves as the Senate Majority Whip and a close ally of President William Ruto.
His open support for a rival candidate in Malava has triggered mixed reactions within the party, with some UDA insiders calling for firm disciplinary action to preserve internal unity. The move comes amid growing tension in the ruling party over perceived rebellion among senior members ahead of the 2027 general election.
As of now, Senator Khalwale has not publicly responded to the disciplinary notice.
