Kenya Airways Makes Major Announcement on New York Flights After US Weather Disruptions

Kenya Airways has cancelled two scheduled flights between Nairobi and New York after severe winter weather disrupted airport operations in the United States.

The airline said the cancellations were necessitated by adverse weather conditions, including heavy snowfall, affecting flights into and out of John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK).

The affected services are KQ 002 from Nairobi (NBO) to New York (JFK) on 24 January 2026, and KQ 003 from New York (JFK) to Nairobi (NBO) on 25 January 2026.

In a customer update issued on Friday, Kenya Airways said the decision was taken to ensure safe flight operations.
“The safety of our guests and crew remains our highest priority, and these cancellations have been made in the interest of safe operations,” a Kenya Airways spokesperson said.

More Kenya Airways Flights Could Be Affected

The national carrier warned that additional disruptions may occur if poor weather conditions in the US persist.

Kenya Airways said it is closely monitoring the situation and anticipates that KQ 002 scheduled for Sunday, 25 January, could also be disrupted. This may, in turn, affect KQ 003 on Monday, 26 January 2026.

“Our teams are actively monitoring the evolving weather situation in the United States and will continue to assess the impact on our flight schedule,” the spokesperson said.

Winter storms have caused widespread flight delays and cancellations across several US cities, with aviation authorities warning that operations at major airports could remain constrained.

“Severe snowfall significantly affects airport operations, ground handling, and air traffic flow,” the airline added.

Apology to Passengers

Kenya Airways apologised to customers affected by the cancellations and thanked them for their patience.

“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused and appreciate our customers’ patience and understanding during this period,” the airline said.

Passengers have been advised to regularly check for updates through the Kenya Airways website or mobile app, or to contact the airline’s Customer Excellence team.

Developing Story
Kenya Airways said it would continue to issue updates as the situation develops and as weather conditions in the US become clearer.

“We will keep our customers informed as more information becomes available,” the spokesperson said.
