A 37-year-old man from Migori County has been arrested after detectives recovered suspected narcotic drugs during a targeted anti-drug operation in Busia Town’s Central Business District (CBD).
The suspect, identified as Ouma Dibogo Obobo, was intercepted by law enforcement officers at Busia’s main bus stage following intelligence reports linking him to the transportation of illegal substances.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the operation was launched after officers received a tip-off regarding suspicious activity in the border town, which serves as a key transit point between Kenya and Uganda.
“Acting on a tip-off, officers swiftly moved in and intercepted the suspect at Busia’s main bus stage,” the DCI said in a statement.
Detectives conducted a search on the suspect and recovered several packages believed to contain narcotic drugs.
“A search of his backpack led to the recovery of three packages wrapped in yellow cello tape containing cannabis sativa,” the agency stated.
The officers also recovered additional substances that are now undergoing forensic examination.
“Officers also recovered 26 sachets containing an unidentified powdery substance, which has been forwarded for forensic analysis to determine its composition,” the DCI added.
The suspect was immediately taken into custody and escorted to Busia Police Station together with the recovered exhibits.
“The suspect, Ouma Dibogo Obobo, a resident of Migori County, was escorted to Busia Police Station together with the recovered exhibits as investigations continue,” the statement said.

DCI Intensifies Crackdown on Drug Trafficking
The arrest comes amid intensified efforts by security agencies to curb drug trafficking and the movement of illegal substances through major transport corridors and border entry points.
Busia, one of Kenya’s busiest border towns, has frequently been a focus of anti-narcotics operations due to its strategic location along regional trade routes connecting East African countries.
Investigators are now seeking to establish the origin and intended destination of the recovered drugs, as well as whether the suspect may be linked to a wider narcotics distribution network operating across county and international borders.
The DCI reiterated that the fight against drug trafficking remains a top priority and warned individuals involved in the illegal trade that they will face the full force of the law.
“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations remains steadfast in its fight against drug trafficking, working relentlessly to dismantle narcotics networks, intercept contraband at all points of entry, and ensure that those who profit from the illicit drug trade face the full force of the law,” the agency said.
Authorities have urged members of the public to continue sharing information that could help security agencies disrupt drug trafficking networks and protect communities from the devastating effects of narcotics.
Investigations remain ongoing as forensic experts analyze the unidentified powdery substance recovered during the operation.
