In a high-alert operation triggered by a public tip-off, Nairobi police officers arrested four suspects and recovered a plastic replica revolver, six rubber bullets, and a knife engraved with “AK47” during a late-night patrol along Kenyatta Avenue.
The incident occurred at approximately 1:25 a.m. on Tuesday, when police on night duty intercepted a suspicious vehicle parked at a petrol station. Alert members of the public had earlier reported seeing one of the individuals brandishing what looked like a firearm, prompting immediate action from the officers.
“We treat all firearm reports with the utmost seriousness—real or imitation,” said Nairobi Police Commander David Mathiu. “The cooperation from the public in this case made all the difference.”
What Police Found
A search of the vehicle yielded:
- 1 plastic revolver (realistic replica)
- 6 rubber bullets
- 1 combat-style knife marked “AK47”
The four male suspects, who appeared intoxicated at the time, were taken into custody without incident. Their vehicle was impounded and is now undergoing forensic examination.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities are investigating the possibility that the replica weapon was used in previous acts of intimidation or low-level robbery. Officers are also looking into the ownership history of the impounded vehicle and checking for any links to past criminal activities.
“We’re committed to preemptive policing. Public vigilance combined with swift response is how we keep Nairobi safe,” Commander Mathiu added.
Community Watch Urged
Police have praised the quick-thinking bystanders who reported the suspicious activity. They encourage Nairobi residents to continue reporting any unusual behavior to law enforcement, emphasizing that “see something, say something” remains a key pillar of urban safety.
The suspects remain in custody at Central Police Station as investigations continue. Charges will be filed following forensic and legal review
