FKF: Kenya has not withdrawn from AWCON

The Federation of Kenya Football (FKF) caretaker committee, has written to Confederation of African Football (CAF), that Kenya has not withdrawn from the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Uganda.

The Total Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) match against Uganda, was scheduled to take place on 17th of February, 2022 in Kampala with a return leg on 22nd February, 2022 in Nairobi.

“The caretaker committee is aware of a letter written to CAF withdrawing Kenya from the tournament. The FKF caretaker committee is working to resolve the matter as a matter of urgency,” The FKF caretaker committee press statement said.

“The government of Kenya through the caretaker committee has invested in Harambee Starlets as a team and the team is currently in camp at Kasarani and will continue to be in camp as they prepare for the qualifier against Uganda as scheduled.”

The committee assured Kenyans, Ugandans and CAF that all measures will be put into place to ensure that the match goes on as planned.

This comes after a letter was written by the ousted FKF CEO Barry Otieno, Withdrawing Kenya from the competition.
