Kenya’s Presidential Debate to Be held in July,2022

On Wednesday, March 02, 2022, the Media Owners Association, the Media Council of Kenya, and the Kenya Editors Guild have launched the Kenya Presidential Debates for the 2022 General Election.

This will be in consultation with Political Parties to ensure that all the dates will be factored in by political parties’ campaign calendars

Clifford Machoka who is the Head of External Affairs & Marketing at Nation Media Group, was appointed as the Head of the Presidential Debates Secretariat.

“A team of senior editors from across media houses has been established to provide stewardship of the content aspects given how critical the debates are to ensure the public interest obligations are served,” a joint statement by the three media entities reads.

Kenya held its first Presidential debate in 2013 where all presidential candidates were invited to debate issues.

In 2017 the presidential debate had its own share of drama when President Uhuru Kenyatta did not attend the debate citing a lack of consultations
