Kilimani Man Busted Posing as KDF Brigadier in Major Recruitment Scam

Arrest and Impersonation

Detectives in Parklands have arrested a man accused of impersonating a Kenya Defence Forces brigadier and swindling young Kenyans seeking recruitment into the military. The suspect, Joshua Mutui Muimi, was cornered inside his rented apartment in Kilimani after an intelligence-led operation.

Muimi is said to have upgraded himself from an ordinary civilian to a self-proclaimed KDF brigadier, collecting money from unsuspecting youths by issuing fake admission letters to the Recruit Training School in Eldoret.

Investigators say he had been operating the fraudulent scheme for months, promising successful recruitment in exchange for payment. Inside the house, officers found him dressed in full Kenya Air Force uniform, complete with badges and insignia that he was not authorised to wear.

Evidence Seized

A search inside the apartment uncovered documents bearing the Ministry of Defence logo, six forged RTS admission letters all carrying the same serial number, seven fingerprint forms and a Yilmaz Defence Industry ammunition manufacturing manual.

The materials revealed what detectives describe as a deliberate attempt to deceive young people hoping to join the military.

DCI Warning to the Public

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations is urging Kenyans to remain alert and avoid shortcuts in military recruitment.

The agency reminded the public that genuine KDF enlistment is free, fair and transparent and warned that criminals often take advantage of jobseekers during recruitment periods.

Muimi is currently in custody and will be arraigned once processing is complete
