Radio Jambo’s Patanisho presenter Joseph Ogidi famously known as Gidi Gidi who sang UNBWOGABLE has said he understands Sauti Sols frustrations but they could not have reacted the way they did
Gidi Gidi and Maji Maji turned radio presenters sang Unbwogable which was widely used and adopted by the Rainbow coalition
According to Gidi,Sauti Sol should have seized the moment and ride on the publicity created by the political buzz to increase their revenue streams..eg skiza tunes…women power merchandise etc.
“It was a historic moment in Kenya for a woman to be nominated as a DP for a leading Presidential candidate. Irrespective of your political alignment that was something to celebrate. Sauti Sol could have jumped on this ‘woman power’ ship and make more money and more female fanbase.” Gidi Said
“Thats what we did in 2002 with Unbwogable, we couldn’t get what we wanted. We decided to print ‘I AM UNBWOGABLE’ tshirts, which sold like hotcake at NARC political rallies.

KANU reached out to buy the song but we refused, it was no longer ours but a National anthem for peoples struggle at that time. It was an UNBWOGABLE moment.”
In A statement issued by the all boys band, they said that the act of Azimio using their song ‘Extravaganza’ without their consent is blatant copyright infringement
“We did license this song to the Azimio la Umoja Campaign neither did we give any consents for its use in the announcement of their Vice-Presidential Candidate.Furthermore, our authority to use the composition, which is one of our most distinct compositions was neither sought nor given.The group went on to distance themselves from the Azimio campaigns saying they are not aligned to any political movement”
“We would like to make it very clear to our fans, partners an associates, we are not aligned to nor associated with the Azimio La Umoja Campaign or any other Political movement and/or party their presidential aspirants, vice presidential aspirants and candidates at large. We are fully apolitical,” the group added.
Responding to Sauti Sol,the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party said that they played Sauti Sol’s song during the occasion since they appreciate their work.
