Former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has launched a scathing attack on allies of President William Ruto, accusing them of “moral bankruptcy” in an escalating political feud surrounding Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Friday, Malala alleged that senior figures within the Kenya Kwanza administration were orchestrating a campaign to discredit Gachagua by dragging his family into political battles.
The remarks mark Malala’s most direct criticism yet of Ruto since his recent defection from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to Gachagua’s Democratic Congress Party (DCP), highlighting growing divisions within the ruling coalition.

Malala Alleges Plot Involving State House
Malala specifically accused Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi of leading what he described as a “sinister plot” targeting Gachagua’s family.
According to Malala, Wamumbi allegedly coerced relatives of the deputy president and facilitated their transport to State House.
“We have information that yesterday at 6:15 p.m., using car registration number KDS 990Z, you coerced and took relatives of H.E. Rigathi Gachagua to State House—enticing them with bribes to validate your false narrative of a family dispute,” Malala claimed.
He further alleged that the actions were being carried out under instructions from President Ruto, intensifying claims of a widening fallout between the two top leaders.
‘Politics Has Sunk Too Low,’ Malala Says
The former UDA secretary-general criticized what he termed as the politicization of private family matters, warning that Kenya’s political landscape was taking a dangerous turn.
“Kenya’s politics has sunk to a disturbing depth where even the dead are not spared,” he said.
Malala described the alleged actions as “not strategy—but moral bankruptcy,” accusing political actors of exploiting grieving families for political gain.
Reference to Late Nderitu Gachagua
In his statement, Malala invoked the legacy of the late Hon. Nderitu Gachagua, brother to the deputy president, saying his memory was being disrespected.
He described the late leader’s legacy as one rooted in “order, dignity, and clarity,” warning that attempts to interfere with family matters for political purposes were both “shameful and offensive.”
Personal Attack on Wamumbi
Malala also accused Wamumbi of betrayal, referencing past support he claimed the Mathira MP received from Gachagua during difficult times.
“You have repaid this with impeachment, violence, and now fighting even the dead in his family,” he alleged.
He further warned that voters in Mathira would ultimately judge the MP’s actions in the 2027 General Election.
Direct Warning to President Ruto
Turning his criticism directly to President Ruto, Malala issued a stern warning over what he termed as the misuse of power.
“Power is fleeting. Legacy is permanent. And history is unforgiving,” he stated.
“You have made life for the living unbearable; now your appetite has pointed you to go for the dead. Mr. Ruto, enough is enough.”
Growing Political Tensions in Kenya
The latest remarks add to mounting signs of a deepening rift within Kenya Kwanza, particularly between factions aligned to Ruto and Gachagua.
Political analysts say the fallout could significantly reshape alliances ahead of the 2027 elections, with Malala’s defection seen as part of a broader realignment within Kenya’s political landscape.
Efforts to reach Wamumbi and State House for comment were unsuccessful by the time of publication.
