DCI Arrest ‘Mchele Babe’ in Ruiru Today After Nairobi Man Drugged, Robbed of Cash and Phones

Detectives in Nairobi have arrested a suspected “mchele babe” in Ruiru today, linking her to a criminal syndicate targeting revellers across the city, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has confirmed.

The arrest follows a report filed at Embakasi Police Station, where a man claimed he was drugged and robbed after a night out.

“I was socializing at a club after playing pool when a woman approached me and hugged me,” the complainant told detectives. “Moments later, I started feeling dizzy. I left with her, and after that, everything went black.”

The victim said he later regained consciousness only to find his house ransacked.

“When I woke up, my valuables were gone,” he said. “Two laptops—HP and Lenovo—had been stolen, my Samsung S22 phone was missing, along with Ksh 168,000 in cash and jewellery worth Ksh 50,000.”

According to the DCI, forensic leads guided officers to the suspect’s residence in Ruiru.

“Acting on forensic evidence and intelligence, detectives traced and arrested the suspect at Havilla Apartments in Kihunguro,” the agency said.

Police reported a major recovery during the operation.

“We recovered 40 assorted mobile phones, 14 laptops, and an iPad with a keyboard,” the DCI stated. “Some of these items have already been positively identified as belonging to the complainant.”

Preliminary investigations indicate the suspect is part of a wider network operating across Nairobi.

“This is an organized syndicate that uses a stupefying substance commonly referred to as ‘mchele,’” the DCI said. “The substance renders victims unconscious, allowing suspects to steal valuables and access sensitive financial information.”

Detectives warned that stolen items are often sold through black market channels.

“The syndicate targets unsuspecting revellers in social settings,” investigators added.

The suspect is currently being held at Embakasi Police Station as investigations continue.

“She has been booked, and efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the network,” the DCI confirmed.

Authorities have urged members of the public to remain vigilant while in social establishments and report any suspicious incidents.

Cases involving “mchele babes” have been on the rise in Nairobi and its surrounding areas, raising concerns over public safety and the growing sophistication of urban crime networks.
