The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested two suspects in Nairobi for impersonating its officers and attempting to extort money from members of the public.
The suspects, Annastacia Mueni Kavemba and Stephen Muleu Ngati, were apprehended following a complaint lodged on March 29, 2026.
The complainant reported that Ms. Mueni contacted them claiming, “You are under investigation. You must pay to influence the outcome and avoid further legal action.”

Acting swiftly, the EACC launched an operation that led to the suspects’ arrest immediately after they received KSh 20,000 as a bribe, officials confirmed.

An EACC spokesperson told TDW News, “We will not tolerate impersonation of our officers. This arrest demonstrates our commitment to protecting the public and fighting corruption.”
The suspects are now at the EACC Headquarters at Integrity Centre, where statements are being recorded and further investigations are underway.
The Commission urged the public to remain alert, stating: “Do not respond to anyone claiming to be an EACC officer demanding money. Report all such attempts immediately.”
On legal implications, the EACC warned: “Impersonation and extortion are serious offences. Anyone found guilty will face strict legal consequences.”
The public is encouraged to report bribery, extortion, or corruption attempts via the official EACC hotline or offices nationwide.
