Nairobi, March 10, 2025 – The body of the late Kenyan police officer Samuel Tompoi Kaetuai, who tragically lost his life while serving in the Haiti peacekeeping mission, was received this evening at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) by the Deputy Inspector General of the Administration Police Service (APS), Mr. Gilbert Masengeli.
Kaetuai was part of Kenya’s contingent deployed to Haiti under the United Nations-backed peacekeeping mission, aimed at stabilizing the crisis-ridden Caribbean nation. His death underscores the risks Kenyan officers face while working in volatile regions.
Speaking at JKIA, Mr. Masengeli paid tribute to the fallen officer, emphasizing his courage and dedication.
“Samuel served with utmost bravery and commitment. His sacrifice for global peace will never be forgotten,” he said.
The officer’s body was later transferred to Chiromo Mortuary for preservation, as burial arrangements are finalized in consultation with his family.

A Nation Mourns a Dedicated Patriot
The repatriation follows a visit by the Inspector General of the National Police Service (NPS), Mr. Douglas Kanja, on March 2, 2025, to the officer’s home in Naserian Village, Kajiado East Sub-County, where he condoled with the bereaved family and pledged full support.
Kaetuai’s father, Mr. Kaetuai, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of his son. “We are devastated, but we take comfort in knowing he died serving a noble cause,” he said.
Family spokesperson, Mr. George Kimiti, called for continued support for security officers in high-risk missions. “Our officers put their lives on the line for peace. They deserve all the support and recognition they can get,” he stated.

High-Ranking Officials and Leaders Pay Tribute
The solemn reception at JKIA was attended by senior security officials, including Commandant BPU Mr. James Kamau, SAIG, Director of Medical Services APS Madam Lilian Kanini, CP, and NPS Spokesperson Mr. Muchiri Nyaga, CP. Also present were Kajiado County Senator Hon. Peris Tobiko, family members, and colleagues of the late officer.
Senator Tobiko acknowledged the sacrifices of Kenyan security forces, stating, “Our officers deserve the highest honor for their bravery. Samuel’s death is a painful reminder of the dangers they face daily.”
Kenya’s Role in the Haiti Peacekeeping Mission
Kenya took the lead in a multinational peacekeeping mission in Haiti, following a request from the United Nations and the Haitian government to help restore law and order. The country pledged to deploy 1,000 officers, with support from the U.S. and other international partners. The mission aims to combat gang violence and political instability, which have plagued Haiti for years.
The late Samuel Tompoi Kaetuai was a highly disciplined and decorated officer who had served in the Administration Police Service for several years. His decision to join the Haiti mission demonstrated his unwavering commitment to global security.
Honoring His Legacy
As the nation mourns, Kaetuai’s sacrifice serves as a testament to the courage of Kenyan officers in international operations. The government has assured his family of full support, while security agencies have reiterated their commitment to recognizing officers who serve in dangerous missions.
Kenya continues to play a critical role in global peace efforts, and the tragic loss of Officer Kaetuai reinforces the need for sustained support for security personnel deployed abroad.
