Tears and shock in Nairobi after popular club host and event promoter Ciggie revealed that a DNA test has shown that a child he raised for 12 years is not his biological child.

The news was shared today, October 3, 2026, through a social media post by Nairobi Gossip Club that has already gathered over 51,000 likes and 2,300 comments in just 6 hours.

According to the post, Ciggie had been taking care of the girl since she was born. He paid her hospital bills, bought her clothes, paid school fees from nursery to Class 7, paid house rent where the child and mother lived, and even sold a small plot in Rongai to clear school arrears when the mother said she had no money.

He believed he was the father. He introduced the child to his family. His mother knew the child as granddaughter. His friends knew him as baba.

But things changed three months ago when a friend advised him to do DNA test before buying land in the child's name as he had planned.

"I just wanted to be sure because I wanted to secure her future. I never thought it would break me," he is quoted saying.

He went to Government Chemist and paid for DNA test.

Results came this week. The paper said: *"Excluded as biological father of the child."* Meaning 0% chance he is father.

Ciggie said he cried inside the lab.

"I held the paper for 20 minutes. I could not move. Twelve years flashed in my mind — first day she called me daddy, first school closing day, when she was sick and I slept in hospital. All gone," he wrote.

The mother of the child has not yet spoken publicly, but sources close to family say she is saying Ciggie knew he was not father but accepted to raise child.

Ciggie denies.

He says he only knew the mother during that time and they were together for one year before she got pregnant. He never doubted because they were living together.

Now Kenyans are divided.

Some men are supporting him. They say this is why DNA should be mandatory at birth in Kenya.

One man commented, "Brother, DNA is cheaper than school fees. Sh10k for DNA vs Sh1.2M for 12 years. Men we must wake up."

Another said, "I raised a boy for 9 years, same story. You are not alone. May God heal you."

Women are also commenting. Some say he should still continue as father because 12 years bond is more than blood.

A woman wrote, "That child knows only you as daddy. Are you going to tell her at 12 years that you are not father? Blood does not make you father, love does."

Another woman said, "But why did the mother lie for 12 years? That is wicked. She wasted his youth and money."

Is DNA Becoming Common in Kenya?

This case comes at a time when DNA tests are becoming very common in Kenya. Many men in Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu are quietly doing DNA tests for children they already have.

Lawyers say they receive 10-15 cases per week of men wanting to stop child support after DNA shows they are not fathers.

Government Chemist in Nairobi says they receive over 100 DNA cases per week, up from 30 per week in 2022.

Some churches are now advising couples to do DNA before marriage.

For Ciggie, the pain is more than money. It is emotional.

He had posted photos with the child on Father's Day in June. He wrote "My princess, my reason". Now those photos have been deleted.

Friends say he has not eaten well since results.

He says he does not hate the child. He says he loves her but he is confused.

"I love her. But every time I look at her now, I see betrayal. I need time," he said.

What will happen to child? Will he continue paying school fees? Will mother take full responsibility?

He has not decided.

For now, he wants Kenyans to pray for him.

He said, "No one is above the program. If you have not done DNA, please do. Don't wait 12 years like me."

Kenyans are now asking — should DNA be mandatory for all children at birth to avoid such pain? Or should fatherhood be about love, not blood?
