President William Ruto is pictured waving to residents in Migori today September 16, 2026 as he winds up his four-day Nyanza development tour.
According to People Daily update today September 16 at 06:49 AM, Ruto is expected to wrap up his Nyanza tour today in Migori where he will inspect key road and energy projects.
During the tour, Ruto made two major announcements about late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
People Daily reported September 14 at 10:39 PM that Ruto proposed renaming Kisumu International Airport to Raila Odinga International Airport.
Ruto said "I am in discussion with the county government here and the people of this region with the possibility of renaming Kisumu International Airport also as Raila Odinga International Airport."
According to KBC Digital September 13, Ruto paid tribute to Raila vowing to carry forward his legacy.
For Talanta Stadium, Eastleigh Voice reported September 14 that President confirmed it will be renamed Raila Odinga International Stadium.
Ruto said "Nobody is forcing us to do it. I'm doing it out of respect for the late Prime Minister, who was an Arsenal fan like myself."
People Daily reported September 14 at 10:31 PM that Ruto credited Raila for sugar reforms.
He said "It would not have been possible to sort out the sugar industry without the input and the support of the late prime minister."
The President said cartels were removed from Chemelil, Nzoia and Sony sugar mills.
The tour covered Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay and Migori from September 13-16 focusing on KSh 220 billion projects.
