Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has spoken after a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) meeting in Nembure, Embu County, was disrupted amid reports of violence and property damage.

In a statement issued on behalf of the UDA party, Kindiki said the party regretted the losses and damage allegedly caused during the incident.

“The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party regrets the loss and/or damage brought about by those responsible for organizing the youth to disrupt our party meeting in Nembure, Embu earlier today,” Kindiki said.

The meeting reportedly descended into chaos as groups of youths disrupted proceedings, with incidents of violence and damage reported during the confrontation.

Kindiki strongly condemned the violence and called on law enforcement agencies to take action against those responsible.

“The Party condemns violence and demands that law enforcement agencies take punitive measures against all those responsible for perpetuating political violence,” he said.

The Deputy President said UDA believes political competition should be based on policies, development records and competing visions for the country.

“The Party stands for issue-based politics and a contest around who or which party has a better development track record and policy goals for Kenya’s future,” Kindiki said.

He further criticised what he described as attempts to secure political support through misinformation, violence and political slogans.

The UDA Deputy Party Leader said political support should not be forced through what he termed “lies, violence and useless slogans.”

UDA to Verify Extent of Damage

Kindiki said the UDA leadership in Embu had been tasked with establishing the exact nature and extent of the losses following the disruption.

“Our party leadership in Embu has been tasked with verifying the exact nature of the loss and/or damage,” he said.

He added that the party leadership would coordinate its response and support those affected by the incident.

The party, Kindiki said, would “stand in solidarity with all those adversely affected in one way or another.”

The statement comes amid heightened political activity across the country as political parties and leaders intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Kindiki concluded the statement in his capacity as UDA Deputy Party Leader, reiterating the party’s condemnation of political violence and its call for an issue-based political contest.

The circumstances surrounding the disruption, including the extent of the reported damage and those responsible, are expected to be established through investigations by the relevant authorities.
