Former Chief Justice David Maraga has finally landed in the United States today, September 17.

This is the start of his long 3-week trip that will end on October 5.

His party, United Green Movement (UGM), confirmed this yesterday evening. They released a small statement saying he is ready.

Which States Will He Visit?

I have checked the schedule. Maraga will not stay in one place. He will move across nine states.

He will be in Washington DC, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Minnesota, Georgia, Houston and Dallas. In all these places, he will meet Kenyans living there.

Which States Will He Visit?

Many people are asking why now. There are two reasons.

First, next week there is UNGA in New York. That is the United Nations meeting where all presidents go. As a respected former CJ, Maraga has been invited for side meetings. That will give him a big stage to talk about his 2027 plans.

Second, diaspora votes. Last election, only about 10,000 Kenyans in US registered. But this time, the number is expected to be three times more. So Maraga wants their support early.

He even said something that touched many. In his statement seen by The Star, he said, "Our Constitution recognizes the diaspora as full partners in Kenya's future, not just a source of remittances." People say this was a direct attack on Ruto's government.

From Caravan to Presidential Race

You remember earlier this year? Between February and April, Maraga did his Ukatiba Caravan. He went to 43 counties. He did not use helicopters or big convoys like other politicians. He went to markets, matatu stages and churches. He was just listening to normal Kenyans.

After that caravan, he said he will vie for president in 2027. He said he consulted Gen Z and ordinary Kenyans.

And young people love him. Today morning by 8am, #MaragaInUS was already trending on X.

Political analyst Herman Manyora, speaking to a local TV station today morning as reported by Capital FM Kenya, said Maraga is different. He said, "Maraga is not your typical politician. He has integrity. He nullified a presidential election. Kenyans trust him."

So far, President William Ruto has not said anything. State House is still quiet since the announcement.

As reported by Daily Nation, Maraga has been speaking about corruption, abductions and high cost of living. He says Kenya needs a reset.

His UGM party says after US, he will go to Europe, then come back in November for a full country tour.

His first big meeting will be in New York this weekend where he will address Kenyans in diaspora.
