Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has launched a fresh attack on the organisers of the Vision 2060 meeting, dismissing the gathering as an exercise in political theatrics and accusing its participants of attempting to hoodwink Kenyans.

In a statement addressed to Kenyans, Gachagua said the meeting would continue on Tuesday morning at a popular hotel along Mombasa Road.

“Tomorrow morning, the Vision 2060 Afro CINEMA LIES will continue at a popular hotel, Mombasa Road,” Gachagua said.

According to the former Deputy President, the meeting is scheduled to begin at 8am and run until 1pm.

“The Afro Cinema will start at 8.00am and End at 1.00pm,” he said.

Gachagua claimed that Kenyans should expect what he described as political posturing, photo opportunities and dramatic phone calls during the meeting.

“Usual upgraded lies, posturing, photohops, and dramatic phone calls; just drama to hoodwink Kenyans,” he said.

The former Deputy President also claimed that lunch would be served at the venue, appearing to question the substance of the gathering and portraying it as more of a political spectacle than a meaningful engagement.

“Lunch will be served from the venue,” Gachagua added.

Gachagua invokes Abraham Lincoln quote

Gachagua ended his message by invoking a widely attributed quote associated with former United States President Abraham Lincoln, suggesting that Kenyans would eventually see through what he characterised as political deception.

“You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time,” Gachagua quoted Lincoln as saying.

His remarks come amid heightened political activity in Kenya, with rival political camps increasingly using public meetings, rallies and political statements to shape the national conversation ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Gachagua has increasingly positioned himself as a critic of the Kenya Kwanza administration since his removal from office, frequently attacking government policies and political initiatives while mobilising support for an alternative political direction.

The Vision 2060 meeting is therefore likely to attract political attention, particularly given the sharp language Gachagua has used to describe the event.

While Gachagua characterised the gathering as an “Afro Cinema” and accused its organisers of spreading “lies”, his remarks represent his political assessment of the meeting and should not be taken as an independent description of what will take place at the venue.

The meeting is expected to begin at 8am and conclude at 1pm on Tuesday.
