Wiper Patriotic Front leader and former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has mourned Justice Joseph Mutava Mbalu, the husband of Kibwezi East MP Jessica Mbalu, following his death.

In a condolence message dated August 22, 2026, Musyoka described the passing of Justice Mbalu as a painful loss to the Mbalu family, the Judiciary and the country.

“It is with a heavy heart that I have received the news of the passing of Justice Joseph Mutava Mbalu, husband of our dear sister and colleague, Hon. Jessica Mbalu, Member of Parliament for Kibwezi East,” Musyoka said.

“On behalf of my family, the Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF), and the people of Kenya, I extend my deepest condolences to Hon. Jessica, her children, and the entire Mbalu family, relatives and friends.”

Musyoka paid tribute to Justice Mbalu’s record of public service, describing him as a person who served the country with honour, integrity and distinction.

“Justice Mutava served our nation with honour, integrity and quiet distinction. He leaves behind a legacy of service in our Judiciary,” he said.

The Wiper leader noted that while Justice Mbalu’s contribution to the Judiciary would be remembered, his absence would be felt most deeply by his immediate family.

“But it is at home that Mutava will be missed most; as a husband and as a father, and it is there that our thoughts and prayers are today,” Musyoka said.

The former Vice President turned to scripture to offer comfort to Jessica Mbalu, her children and the wider family as they mourn.

“The Psalmist reminds us, ‘The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit,’” he said, quoting Psalm 34:18.

“May that nearness settle upon Jessica and her children now, and give them strength in the difficult days ahead,” Musyoka added.

He assured the bereaved family that they would receive support from the Wiper Patriotic Front and Kenyans during the difficult period.

“To Hon. Jessica and the entire family: you do not grieve alone. The Wiper Patriotic Front and Kenyans across the country stand with you in this hour of sorrow,” he said.

Musyoka concluded his message by praying for the late judge’s soul.

“May the soul of Justice Joseph Mutava Mbalu rest in eternal peace,” he said.

Justice Joseph Mutava Mbalu’s death has left the Mbalu family and friends mourning the loss of a man remembered for his service to the country and his role as a husband and father.

The condolence message was signed by H.E. Dr. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, EGH, SC, CS, under the Wiper Patriotic Front.
