A suspect believed to be behind a series of robbery incidents in Kwale County has been arrested after vigilant members of the public alerted police, in an operation that the National Police Service (NPS) says highlights the growing importance of community policing in the fight against crime.
The suspect was arrested at Kombani Stage by officers from Kombani Police Patrol Base after residents shared information about his whereabouts.
According to the National Police Service, officers responded immediately to the intelligence, intercepting the suspect before taking him into custody.
"A timely tip-off from vigilant members of the public has led to the arrest of a suspect believed to be linked to a series of robbery incidents in Kwale County, underscoring the vital role of community partnership in the fight against crime," the National Police Service said.

Suspect Found Armed During Arrest
Police said the operation was carried out swiftly after officers received actionable intelligence from members of the public.
"Acting swiftly on the information received, officers from Kombani Police Patrol Base proceeded to Kombani Stage, where they intercepted and arrested the suspect who, at the time of the arrest, was found with a panga strapped to his back," the statement said.
Authorities did not immediately disclose the suspect's identity or provide further details on the robbery incidents under investigation, noting that inquiries are still ongoing.
Suspect Awaits Court Appearance
Following the arrest, the suspect was taken into police custody where he is expected to undergo processing before being presented in court.
"The suspect has been placed in police custody, pending processing and arraignment in court to face relevant charges," the National Police Service confirmed.
Police emphasized that the arrest forms part of continued efforts to crack down on criminal gangs and individuals suspected of terrorizing residents in Kwale County.
Police Praise Residents for Helping Fight Crime
The National Police Service credited the successful operation to the timely information provided by members of the public, saying cooperation between residents and law enforcement remains critical in improving security across the country.
"The arrest demonstrates the continued resolve of the National Police Service to act decisively on actionable intelligence and public reports in order to combat criminal activities," the Service said.
The police also thanked residents for remaining alert and encouraged them to continue reporting suspicious activities.
"The Service commends members of the public for their vigilance and encourages continued cooperation, reaffirming that effective policing is built on strong partnerships between law enforcement and the communities they serve," the statement added.
Community Policing Remains Key to Fighting Crime
The latest arrest underscores the growing role of community policing in helping security agencies prevent crime and apprehend suspects. Police say information shared by members of the public often enables officers to respond quickly before criminal activities escalate.
The National Police Service has urged Kenyans to continue reporting suspicious persons, criminal activities and security threats to the nearest police station, reiterating that public cooperation remains one of the most effective tools in safeguarding communities.
As investigations continue, detectives are expected to establish whether the suspect is connected to other robbery cases reported in Kwale County before he is formally charged in court.
