In a statement issued on Saturday, September 26, the movement said its leadership had met and agreed to move forward together under a common political purpose.
“Today, we met as the leadership of Linda Mwananchi and resolved to move forward together, united by a common purpose of answering the call of Kenyans seeking better governance and rescuing our country from the grave failures of the current administration,” the movement said.
The declaration comes after weeks of reports and speculation over disagreements within Linda Mwananchi, particularly regarding the movement's political strategy and the party through which Sifuna would pursue his presidential bid.
Recent reports had highlighted differences involving Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, with the question of the political vehicle for the 2027 elections emerging as one of the issues under discussion.
Babu, however, has denied falling out with Sifuna and maintained that he supports the senator's presidential ambitions.
Sifuna confirmed as Linda Mwananchi presidential candidate
In its latest statement, Linda Mwananchi sought to remove any uncertainty over who will lead its presidential campaign.
The movement formally confirmed Sifuna as its leader and presidential candidate.
“HE Edwin Sifuna is our leader and Presidential Candidate,” the statement said.
The declaration comes days after reports indicated that Sifuna's team was working to identify a political party through which he would contest the 2027 presidential election.
The party question has been a major issue surrounding the movement, with different political vehicles being discussed publicly in recent weeks.
Sifuna to unveil party in October
Linda Mwananchi also announced that Sifuna will soon reveal the political party on whose ticket he will contest the presidency.
“In early October, Edwin Sifuna will lead the unveiling of the party on whose ticket he will run,” the movement said.
The statement did not name the party.
This comes amid recent reports linking Sifuna to different political parties, including the United Democratic Party and a proposed Ukombozi People’s Party. However, an official UDP leader on Friday disputed reports that Sifuna and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya were taking over the party.
The latest Linda Mwananchi statement therefore leaves the identity of Sifuna's eventual political vehicle to the planned October unveiling.
Recent reporting had also indicated that Sifuna's allies had settled on an alternative party after complications surrounding the Ukombozi option, with the launch expected in early October.
Linda Mwananchi plans wider coalition
Beyond settling its internal leadership question, the movement said it would pursue a coalition with other political parties ahead of the 2027 election.
“We will seek to build a coalition with like-minded parties that share our commitment to the people of Kenya,” Linda Mwananchi said.
The announcement opens the door for the movement to engage other opposition parties and political leaders as it seeks to build a wider political alliance.
Babu Owino had previously suggested that different parties could work together under the Linda Mwananchi umbrella, while discussions involving other opposition figures have also featured prominently in the movement's political strategy.
Movement says it remains united
Linda Mwananchi concluded its latest statement by directly addressing the uncertainty surrounding its leadership.
“We remain united and focused on the work ahead,” the movement said.
The declaration places Sifuna's presidential bid at the centre of the movement's next phase, with the planned October party unveiling expected to provide more clarity on the political vehicle he will use.
For now, Linda Mwananchi has formally settled one key question: Sifuna is its presidential candidate, while the party he will use in the 2027 race will be unveiled in early October.
