Manyatta Member of Parliament Gitonga Mukunji pictured above has secured a major court win in Embu.

According to Daily Nation report published today September 16, 2026, Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji has been granted anticipatory bail of Sh1m or Sh500,000 cash bail over anticipated arrest linked to Saturday's deadly violence during DP Kindiki's political meeting in Embu.

In his ruling, Justice Magare Dennis Kizito Ngwono certified the application as urgent.

He ordered that the application be served to all the respondents by close of business on September 16, 2026.

The respondents are expected to file their response on September 23, 2026.

The anticipatory bail was granted on condition that Mukunji reports to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Nairobi on September 21, 2026.

However, Justice Ngwono clarified that the anticipatory orders don't bar police from investigating Mukunji and charging him.

The matter will come up for directions on September 29.

Meanwhile, Mukunji has denied being involved in causing chaos which left two people dead and property destroyed during a political meeting at Nembure Stadium in Embu County on September 12, 2026 where vehicles were set ablaze.

In a separate case, Citizen Digital reported today September 16, the Anti-Terrorism Court in Kahawa has released Mukunji from terror charges after dismissing application by ODPP seeking to extend detention.

Senior Principal Magistrate Richard Koech ruled that DCI had failed to make its case after almost 60 days without any charges being preferred.

Mukunji was freed unconditionally with cash bail refunded.
