Ruto, who described Chivayo as his friend, said he was deeply saddened by the sudden deaths, which he said had left families, friends and others who knew the victims mourning.
“I am deeply saddened by the tragic passing of my friend, Wicknell Chivayo, together with his wife, Lucy Muteke, and the other lives lost in the helicopter crash in Zimbabwe,” Ruto said.
The President said Chivayo's death was a painful loss, remembering him for his personality, friendship and belief in Africa's potential.
“Wicknell was a dear friend whose warmth touched many people. I will remember him for his friendship, his energy and his deep conviction in the possibilities of our continent,” Ruto said.
Ruto also extended his condolences to the families of all those who died in the crash.
He further sent his message of sympathy to Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the people of Zimbabwe as they mourned the victims.
“I convey my deepest condolences to the families of all those who lost their lives, to President Mnangagwa, the people of Zimbabwe and everyone mourning this tragic loss,” he said.
Ruto concluded his message by praying for the victims, including Chivayo and his wife.
“May God grant Wicknell, Lucy and all those who perished eternal rest,” the President said.
The helicopter crash occurred in Zimbabwe, with authorities reporting that there were no survivors.
Chivayo was a prominent Zimbabwean businessman who was widely known for his high-profile lifestyle and connections in political and business circles.
His death has since generated widespread reaction in Zimbabwe and across Africa, with tributes being shared by political leaders, business figures and members of the public.
