Sifuna said the experience had strengthened his call for a new generation of Kenyans to stand up for their rights and participate actively in shaping the country’s future.
“Bwana there is just fear everywhere…but a bold new generation must rise up and reclaim their country,” Sifuna said.
The senator linked his remarks to the values enshrined in Kenya’s Constitution, placing particular emphasis on freedom.
“This is why we continue to preach the values in the preamble of our Constitution, most importantly, freedom,” he added.
Sifuna was expected at JKUAT following an invitation from the Students Association Karen Campus Governor, Graham Mboya.
While commenting on the incident, the Nairobi senator thanked Mboya for the invitation and said he intended to continue engaging with students despite being unable to enter the campus.
“I thank the Governor, Students Association Karen Campus, Graham Mboya, for the invitation,” Sifuna said.
He subsequently invited Mboya and other students to the Senate for a continuation of the conversation.
“I’ll be returning the courtesy by inviting you and your fellow students to the Senate tukitoka mashinani so that the conversation can continue,” he said.
Sifuna concluded his message by wishing the students well, saying: “God bless!”
The incident comes as Sifuna continues to engage young Kenyans and student groups on issues surrounding constitutional freedoms, leadership and the country’s political direction.
His remarks are likely to renew attention on the space available for political discussions within university campuses, particularly as Kenyan politicians increasingly seek to engage younger voters ahead of the 2027 General Election.
