Two Men Injured After Roaming Hyena Attacks Residents in Tinderet, Nandi

Two men are nursing injuries after they were attacked by a roaming hyena in Kapkwong/Chemalal area of Chemase Location, Tinderet, Nandi County.

The first victim was attacked at around 8pm while walking home after supper when he encountered the wild animal, which residents said had been roaming the area.

The hyena reportedly continued moving around the neighbourhood before entering a nearby house, where it attacked another man.

The second victim sustained injuries to his neck and hands during the attack.

Alarmed by the distress calls, villagers rushed to the scene and managed to kill the hyena inside the house before it could cause further harm.

The two victims were initially attended to by a private doctor before they were taken to Nandi Hills County Hospital for further treatment and management.

The incident was subsequently reported at Potopoto Police Station.

Residents have expressed concern over their safety following the incident, particularly given reports that the hyena had been roaming the area before the attacks.

There are also growing concerns about the safety of livestock, with residents fearing that the presence of wild animals could pose a continued threat to both people and animals.

Residents are calling on relevant authorities to intervene and assess the situation to determine whether other wild animals could still be roaming the area.

The incident has once again highlighted concerns over human-wildlife encounters in areas where communities live near wildlife habitats.

Authorities are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the hyena's presence in the area and advise residents on measures they should take to remain safe.
