Notorious Nairobi Robber Sentenced to 35 Years for Fatal Attack on Greek National

A man with a long history of criminal activity has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for his role in a violent robbery that claimed the life of a foreign national.

Peter Waithaka Macharia was found guilty of robbery with violence following a deadly attack on Greek national Angelos Tsekilas on October 15, 2022. The brutal incident, which unfolded along Menelik Road, saw Tsekilas shot in the chest before a gang of three men fled with valuables of undisclosed worth.

Swift Investigation Leads to Arrest

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Kilimani launched an intense manhunt, piecing together crucial leads that eventually led them to Macharia’s hideout in Gachie, Kiambu County. He was arrested on October 21, 2022.

“This was a particularly ruthless crime, and we spared no effort in tracking down the suspects,” said a senior DCI officer familiar with the case. “Our teams worked around the clock to ensure justice was served.”

Following his arrest, Macharia was presented before the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Kibera on December 28, 2022, where he was charged under Section 296(2) of the Penal Code.

A Conviction Built on Strong Evidence

The prosecution, armed with compelling evidence, laid out a case that left little room for doubt. CCTV footage, eyewitness accounts, and forensic findings placed Macharia at the scene of the crime, sealing his fate before Senior Principal Magistrate Kahuya.

“This was a well-coordinated and premeditated attack,” noted the prosecution’s lead counsel. “The evidence overwhelmingly pointed to the accused’s direct involvement.”

In delivering the verdict, Magistrate Kahuya underscored the severity of the crime. “Taking a life in the course of a robbery is one of the most heinous offenses under our legal system,” he stated. “The sentence reflects the gravity of the actions committed.”

Public Urged to Support Law Enforcement

With one of the perpetrators behind bars, authorities continue efforts to bring Macharia’s accomplices to justice.

“The public plays a crucial role in crime prevention,” said a spokesperson from the DCI. “We encourage citizens to report suspicious activities and assist in keeping our communities safe.”

Macharia’s sentencing serves as a stern warning to criminals and a reassurance that justice will prevail, no matter how long it takes.
