More than 400 men and boys who have undergone rehabilitation from alcoholism, drugs and substance abuse are currently sitting for National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) courtesy of the Spouse of the Deputy President Pastor Dorcas RIgathi.
The cohort has been sponsored for the examination that is currently ongoing after receiving skills in various technical courses. They are among many who have been undergoing rehabilitation after they voluntarily joined various rehabilitation programs under Pastor Dorcas Rigathi.
Among the men who are currently undergoing skilling at the facility is Peter Mathia who was taken for rehabilitation by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
When DP Gachagua visited Kongo-ini Village of Murang’a County to condole with his family after losing 7 of his uncles, Peter and his 2 brothers John and Stephen decided to join rehabilitation courtesy of DP Gachagua.
Peter has now gained skills in electrical and agribusiness after a 3-months rehabilitation program.
“I had lost hope in life, until H.E Rigathi Gachagua came to our home when we lost our uncles and I decided to come for rehabilitation. Everyone in my family is now happy seeing the reform in me.I am now fully skilled in electrical work something I didn’t haven’t have when I joined this facility. “Peter Said.
Under the program 300 ‘day scholars’ who have been undertaking preventive program from alcoholism, drugs and substance abuse and 159 who have been under are ‘boarding’ facility are sitting for the exams.
Speaking during their education day at the Dorcas Rigathi Foundation Training Institute in Olkalou of Nyandarua County Pastor Dorcas said she takes pride in seeing the reformed men who now have a second chance in life.
“A second chance is given by God and I know there is a big destiny for you. “Pastor Dorcas said.
Pastor Dorcas promised to ensure that all the men at the facility are placed for job once they are done with the skilling.
Nyandarua Governor Kiarie Badilisha who was also present promised to support the program by giving job opportunities to those who qualify from the facility.
“When you see a chance, your way just grab it. Some of us are here because we had a second chance in life. Pastor Dorcas what you have done is God sent.
Governor Badilisha lauded the approach of skilling the reformed addicts with technical skills saying that the country is lacking people with technical knowledge. He pointed out that the county governor of Nyandarua is currently operating with 5 mechanics and will employ more in the near future.
“It calls for one person to dream. When Pastor Dorcas came up with this vision we didn’t know where it could lead. But looking at these men we can see what she had seen. They now look wonderful people. “Governor Kiarie said.
Some of the men who have qualified in the facility have been placed in job at the ongoing government affordable housing projects and various supermarkets such as Magunas.
