Police Recruit Arrested After Allegedly Swindling Kenyan Sh687,000 in Fake KDF Job Deal

A desperate search for employment has landed a Kenyan in financial ruin after a police recruit constable was arrested for allegedly conning the victim Sh687,000 using a fake promise of recruitment into the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).

Detectives from Kayole Police Station say the suspect, identified as Kipkoech Isaac, approached the complainant on November 12, 2025, claiming he had powerful connections capable of securing an official KDF employment letter — at a cost of Sh700,000.

Convinced the offer was genuine, the victim paid Sh687,000. Shortly after receiving the money, however, the suspect allegedly cut off communication, switched off his phone, and disappeared.

Realising he had been defrauded, the complainant reported the matter to police, triggering an investigation.

Tracked to Police College

Following a manhunt, detectives traced Kipkoech to the National Police College, Embakasi A Campus, where he was arrested. Police confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody as investigations continue ahead of his arraignment in court.

Authorities say the case highlights a worrying trend in which individuals exploit the credibility of security institutions to defraud unsuspecting job seekers.
