Real Madrid have launched a fresh and unusually strong attack on LaLiga president Javier Tebas, accusing him of repeatedly using his institutional position to publicly target the Spanish football giants.

The club issued the statement after what it described as Tebas’ latest intervention involving comments about an article written by an independent journalist in a digital media outlet.

Real Madrid said it was “intolerable” for the LaLiga president to repeatedly criticise the club while holding an institutional position that requires him to represent the interests of all clubs in the competition.

“In light of the statements made by LaLiga President Javier Tebas Medrano, Real Madrid C.F. wishes to state the following,” the club said.

“Our club considers it intolerable for the LaLiga President to use his institutional position to repeatedly disparage and attack Real Madrid in the manner he does in every one of his public statements,” the statement continued.

Real Madrid argued that Tebas’ position requires him to serve all LaLiga clubs rather than repeatedly focus his public attention on one team.

“It is deeply concerning that the person responsible for representing and protecting the interests of all LaLiga clubs remains obsessively fixated on Real Madrid, making our club a constant target of his public attacks,” the club said.

The Madrid-based club also criticised Tebas over his latest comments, which it said involved his reaction to an article published by an independent journalist.

“His latest intervention is particularly serious and incomprehensible—unbecoming of a responsible administrator—as it involves commenting on an article by an independent journalist in a digital media outlet,” Real Madrid stated.

The club claimed Tebas subsequently took the opportunity to criticise its sporting strategy, something it described as inappropriate for a LaLiga administrator.

“Yet, he reacts against our club by taking the liberty of critiquing our sporting strategy—an utterly absurd and irresponsible move,” the statement read.

Real Madrid also questioned why the LaLiga president was devoting his personal communication channels to criticism of the club.

“It is astonishing that the LaLiga President devotes his time and personal channels to publicly discrediting Real Madrid,” the club said.

According to the Spanish giants, such public exchanges risk undermining confidence in the institutions responsible for ensuring that the competition is administered impartially.

“Rather than using his position to foster trust in the institutions charged with guaranteeing the competition's impartiality,” Real Madrid said.

The club further accused Tebas’ approach of having consequences beyond its dispute with Real Madrid, claiming it could affect the international image of LaLiga and Spanish football.

“In doing so, he continues to damage the image of our competition and of Spanish football worldwide,” the statement said.

Real Madrid then made a broader argument about the leadership of professional football in Spain, calling for an administrator who can manage the competition while maintaining neutrality.

“Given this persistent and inappropriate behavior, we believe that professional football in Spain urgently needs a leader capable of managing the competition and unlocking its full potential while upholding the fundamental duty of neutrality,” the club stated.

The club also sought to draw a distinction between leading LaLiga and owning the competition.

“It needs someone who understands the nature of the role; the LaLiga President is not the owner of the competition, but an administrator serving the clubs that comprise it and have entrusted him with its leadership,” Real Madrid said.

The statement ended with another direct message about the kind of leadership the club believes LaLiga requires.

“We, the clubs, need someone who will honestly serve this mission,” Real Madrid concluded.

The latest statement highlights the continuing tension between Real Madrid and LaLiga leadership, with the Spanish giants now publicly questioning Tebas’ conduct, his use of his institutional position and the broader leadership of the competition.
