The decision was reached by the FKF General Assembly, the federation's supreme decision-making organ, following deliberations over allegations of serious and repeated violations of the FKF Constitution and applicable FIFA regulations.
In a statement issued on Saturday, FKF confirmed that the Assembly had resolved to remove the seven officials following consideration of their conduct and actions within the federation.
"The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) General Assembly, the federation's supreme decision-making organ, has resolved to expel seven members of the National Executive Committee (NEC)," the statement read.
The resolution marks a significant development in the administration of Kenyan football, with the FKF leadership citing concerns over constitutional compliance, accountability and the stability of the federation.

McDonald Mariga Among Seven Officials Facing Expulsion
Those affected by the resolution include Mariga, who serves as FKF Vice President, alongside six other NEC members representing different regions and interests within Kenyan football.
The seven officials are:
- McDonald Mariga Wanyama – FKF Vice President.
- Robert Kenneth Macharia – Central NEC Member.
- Bernard Korir Lagat – Upper Rift Valley NEC Member.
- Violet Kerubo Momanyi – FKF Women Representative.
- Collins Opiyo Kalee – Nyanza NEC Member.
- Gabriel Mghendi – Coast NEC Member.
- Daniel Akala Shikanda – Nairobi NEC Member.
Their proposed removal follows deliberations on several matters that the federation says raised serious concerns about the conduct of the officials and their adherence to established governance procedures.
Why FKF Moved Against Mariga and Six NEC Members
According to FKF, one of the key issues considered during the meeting was a purported NEC resolution dated April 24, 2026, which sought the removal of the FKF President and other federation officials.
The Assembly also considered allegations that the seven officials had repeatedly failed to attend duly convened NEC meetings.
Other issues included what the federation described as unauthorised communication on behalf of FKF and actions considered inconsistent with the federation's Constitution and applicable football regulations.
Explaining the basis of the decision, FKF stated that the matters involved "serious and repeated violations of the FKF Constitution and applicable FIFA regulations."
The federation further pointed to the April 24 resolution as one of the central matters considered by the Assembly.
The officials' removal is therefore tied to a wider dispute over governance, the authority of the federation's leadership and the procedures governing decisions within its executive structures.
FIFA and CAF Representatives Attend Meru Meeting
The Special General Meeting was attended by representatives of FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Also present were Acting Sports Registrar Chacha J. Maroa and representatives of the State Department for Sports.
Their attendance placed the meeting under the observation of key football governing bodies and government sports administration officials.
FKF said the General Assembly exercised its mandate under Articles 16 and 24 of the federation's Constitution, which provide for the expulsion of members and dismissal of NEC officials.
"The Assembly exercised its mandate under Articles 16 and 24 of the FKF Constitution," the federation stated.
The federation did not, however, provide further details in its statement on the individual voting records or the specific implementation arrangements following the resolution.
FKF Promises Further Communication on Implementation
Following the decision, FKF maintained that the resolutions were aimed at strengthening institutional governance and ensuring accountability within the federation.
The football governing body reiterated its commitment to maintaining stability in the administration of the sport.
"FKF remains committed to constitutional governance, institutional accountability and the stability of football administration in Kenya," the statement added.
The federation also indicated that further communication would be issued regarding the implementation of the resolutions and the resulting administrative arrangements.
"The federation will communicate further on the implementation of the resolutions and the resulting administrative arrangements," FKF said.
The next steps will be significant in determining how the federation reorganises its executive structures following the decision affecting seven NEC members.
With Mariga among those affected, the resolution represents a major development in FKF's leadership and raises fresh questions about the future composition of its National Executive Committee.
