With just 118 days to the August General elections in the country, the political drum beats are beating even louder if not deafening.
Nairobi City County, Kenya’s capital city and Centre of power, has not been spared, from major political coalitions to individual parties, they all want a share of Nairobi.
All the major coalitions are keen to produce the fourth governor of the city
On Saturday, Deputy President William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza coalition unveiled their lineup for the August polls Nairobi county race, Senator Johnson Sakaja for the Nairobi Governor Seat, Bishop Margaret Wanjiru will go for the senate seat while nominated Senator Millicent Omanga will go for the Woman Representative position
“Kenya Kwanza is elated that it will be fielding Johnson Sakaja as its Nairobi Gubernatorial candidate. Senator Sakaja is a leader who measures up to the challenges facing our City. Bishop Wanjiru defers her gubernatorial bid and will now go for the senate seat,” Ruto said.
Azimio One Kenya led by its presidential candidate Raila Odinga is facing a headache as individual parties opposed the zoning of the region and hence friendly fire is expected in the coalition.
The Member of Parliament for Westlands Tim Wetangula Wanyonyi, interestingly they are on opposing sides with his brother Moses Wetangula who is supporting Sakaja, is eyeing the ODM party ticket in order Succeed governor Kananu
Jubilee Party (JP) has settled on businessman Richard Ngatia as its candidate for the Nairobi governor seat in the upcoming general election.
Former Nairobi County Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe has also made a surprise entry into the city politics, he will be vying for the Nairobi Governor’s seat on a Jubilee party ticket.
