The National Police Service (NPS) has dismissed widespread claims that Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi was abducted, terming the viral video showing him lying in a field as “misleading” and “under investigation.”
In a press statement released Monday, the NPS said the MP had been under investigation over a land fraud case and had actively evaded arrest last Friday, despite being aware of impending legal action.
“The MP, fully aware of the police’s intention to arrest him, evaded a dragnet operation, duped officers by escaping on a motorcycle alongside his private security, and switched off his phone,” said police spokesperson Muehiri Nyaga.
The police say that only Koimburi’s driver was intercepted and arrested at the time, and that the MP had not been in the vehicle. He reportedly “resurfaced today amid abduction claims,” sparking a media firestorm and public outrage.

A widely circulated amateur video shows a man believed to be the MP lying on the ground in a maize field, sparking fears of foul play. However, the NPS has confirmed that a special team from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is analyzing the footage and investigating the full circumstances.
“Police from Juja visited the alleged scene, and the area was properly documented,” the statement noted.
“We urge anyone with information regarding the incident shown in the amateur video to report to their nearest police station.”
The National Police further called for calm and caution, urging the public not to jump to conclusions while investigations are underway.
“We reaffirm our unwavering commitment to serving and protecting all Kenyans, residents, visitors, and their property,” Nyaga said. “All reported cases are being thoroughly and expeditiously investigated to bring those responsible to justice.”
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) had already given consent to charge Koimburi in relation to a land fraud case. The sudden turn of events, now wrapped in abduction allegations, has added a new layer of complexity to the case.
As the DCI digs deeper into the viral footage and its authenticity, questions continue to swirl: Was this a genuine case of enforced disappearance—or a calculated evasion strategy turned political drama
