Juja MP George Koimburi was found unconscious on a farm in Kibichoi, Githunguri Constituency, early Sunday morning—less than 24 hours after being abducted during a church service. Witnesses say he appeared disoriented, weak, and unable to speak when he was discovered by farm workers, who immediately alerted local authorities.
The shocking incident has sparked national outrage and reignited debate about the resurgence of politically linked abductions in Kenya.
Former Chief Justice David Maraga was among the first national figures to speak out, condemning the incident as “reprehensible.”
“Kenyans will recall that President Ruto, when hosting the President of Finland, assured Kenyans that abductions will end,” Maraga stated. “Was that a confirmation that state agencies are involved? Did he lie about ending abductions?”
He went further to criticize the leadership, warning of a growing erosion of democratic values.
“We cannot continue to be a country governed by leaders who have no regard for the rule of law and human life. We must reset Kenya to accountability and constitutionalism. We must restore human dignity and value for human life.”

Political and Public Outrage
Opposition leaders expressed grave concern over the MP’s ordeal, calling it “a chilling return to dark days.”
“The abduction and mistreatment of elected leaders is a dangerous slide toward authoritarianism. No Kenyan—no matter their political affiliation—should be subjected to such brutality,” .
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna echoed the sentiment, demanding a full parliamentary inquiry. “This is a test of Kenya’s democracy. Parliament must take this up with urgency.”

Online, the hashtag #JusticeForKoimburi trended nationally as Kenyans demanded accountability. Some users posted photos of the MP being taken to hospital under police escort, while others shared similar past cases, raising fears of a systematic pattern.
Police Confirm Investigation
Kiambu County Police Commander Michael Muchiri confirmed that Koimburi was found and taken to a hospital in stable condition. “We are investigating the circumstances surrounding his disappearance and medical condition. Detectives are already on the ground,” he said.
Government Yet to Respond
Efforts to obtain comment from State House or the Ministry of Interior were unsuccessful by the time of publishing. However, political analysts say the silence is deepening public suspicion over possible state involvement.
Rights Groups Demand Action
Hussein Khalid of Haki Africa urged the government to act decisively: “This cannot become normal. Kenya cannot slide into fear. If state actors are involved, they must face justice. And if they aren’t, then the state must urgently prove that.”
A Nation at a Crossroads
With tensions rising and political leaders demanding answers, the Koimburi abduction has become more than just a security issue—it’s a symbol of Kenya’s battle over accountability, constitutionalism, and the soul of its democracy.
As Maraga warned, “How we respond to this will determine whether we are a nation of fear”
