A letter to a 12 year old me

Dear Mitche,

This is future you, about 10 years older and there`s so much I want to talk to you about. But let me start by saying am sorry. I`m sorry I let people kill your dreams and stifle your creativity.

I`m sorry I let the projections of other people affect how I looked and felt about you. I`m sorry I didn`t stand up for you when you were being looked down upon and made to feel small.

Baby girl, I`m sorry I couldn`t protect you from the mental anguish the world was going to put you through. I should have given you more compliments, I should have believed in you more.

You`ll go through some pretty messed up shit and you`ll have no one to turn to except you.

This will take a toll on you and you`ll break (severally). You`ll have to be strong for you and the family and this will also break you.

You`ll spend years seeking that validation and acceptance in all the wrong places, in the wrong people.

You`ll be hurt and betrayed and you`ll build up walls so high just to protect yourself. You`ll become numb to it all and build armor so tough that even you will find it hard to shed it

But it gets better Mitche, I promise it does

You`ll meet some amazing people who will show you that you deserve the world.

You`ll start working on yourself and it`ll hurt like a bitch!!! But you`ll keep pushing, you`ll keep fighting. You`ll start seeing the beauty and magnificence in yourself again.

You`ll guard your peace fiercely. You`ll pull yourself out of the funk and thrive even when you didn`t think you would. You`ll find love, you`ll find happiness, and most important of all, you`ll find YOU!

Your story will teach and inspire young girls to live for themselves. Did I mention that you now write poems and anything worth reading? It is funny, right?

Unfortunately, you suffer from loneliness and writing is the only thing that has seem to stick when all and everything is left.

Above all the support system from your family especially your mum is what keeps you moving each day

I want to close this letter by telling you that you are enough!

You may be down right now, your self-esteem may be in the dumps but your character will rise. You`ll be alright and I hope to be the kind of woman you`d be proud of.

Hang in there and I love you so much.

Yours,

Mitche
