A 22-year-old man suspected of planning terror-related activities was arrested Tuesday night in Nairobi after police officers discovered explosive-making materials in his possession during a routine patrol.
According to a statement from the National Police Service (NPS), the arrest took place at around 11:20 p.m. near Kamukunji, where officers from the local police station noticed the suspect exhibiting suspicious, evasive behaviour.

Upon stopping and questioning him, officers conducted a search of his bag and found a disturbing cache:
- 21 detonators
- 21 packets of a white powdery substance suspected to be ammonium nitrate (a key ingredient in homemade explosives)
- A five-metre-long electric cable
- Other undisclosed items believed to be linked to bomb-making

The suspect was immediately arrested and later handed over to the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) for further interrogation. Forensic experts are currently analyzing the recovered materials to confirm their composition and potential threat.
“We commend our officers for their alertness and swift action in preventing what could have been a serious national security threat,” read part of the police statement issued Wednesday morning.
