Partnership seeks to support wider adoption of 5G-enabled devices as Kenya accelerates its digital transformation agenda

Nairobi, Kenya, 12/10/26: TECNO has partnered with Safaricom to support wider access to 5G-enabled smartphones in Kenya, as the country continues to expand high-speed mobile connectivity and advance its digital transformation agenda.

The partnership will use TECNO’s performance-focused POVA Curve 2 5G to make 5G-capable technology more accessible to consumers, complementing ongoing efforts by government, regulators and telecommunications providers to expand the infrastructure and device ecosystem required for greater 5G adoption.

As part of the initiative, the POVA Curve 2 5G, which ordinarily retails at KES 55,999, will be available at KES 44,999 from 21 September – 31 October 2026, lowering the entry cost by KES 11,000 during the period.

Kenya has continued to prioritise connectivity as part of its digital transformation. The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has identified affordable access to devices alongside spectrum availability, infrastructure investment and an enabling regulatory environment as important to expanding the benefits of emerging technologies such as 5G.

While network expansion determines where 5G is available, access to compatible smartphones determines how many consumers can actually use it. This is the gap TECNO and Safaricom are seeking to address by bringing together network connectivity and more accessible 5G-enabled devices.

“Kenya has made significant progress in expanding its digital infrastructure, but meaningful adoption also depends on ensuring consumers can access devices capable of taking advantage of that infrastructure,” said Mildred Agoya, Head of Marketing TECNO Kenya.

“Our partnership with Safaricom is about helping close that gap. Through POVA, we want more Kenyans to experience what faster connectivity can enable in how they work, run businesses, communicate and access digital services.”

The device combines 5G connectivity with features designed for users who rely heavily on their smartphones throughout the day.

It features an 8,000mAh battery, 45W fast charging and a 7.42mm slim body, alongside the MediaTek Dimensity 7100 5G processor. TECNO positions that combination around sustained performance without requiring users to choose between battery capacity and portability.

The accessibility drive will also recognise consumers who had already purchased the POVA Curve 2 5G before the campaign period.

Eligible existing customers will receive a TECNO POP 20 4GB+64GB smartphone at no additional cost, which can be claimed through 0721987777, subject to verification and campaign terms.

Customers who acquired the POVA Curve 2 5G through Lipa Mdogo Mdogo will additionally receive a one-month repayment pass waiver.

The partnership comes as Kenya continues to strengthen the environment around newer mobile technologies. The Communications Authority has been updating its mobile Quality of Service framework to account for developments including 4G and 5G, with a focus on network performance and consumer experience.

For TECNO, expanding 5G access is ultimately about what faster connectivity allows consumers to do.

From entrepreneurs managing businesses through their phones and creators uploading content to consumers accessing digital financial, educational and entertainment services, the value of 5G will increasingly depend on both network availability and the ability of consumers to access capable devices.

The POVA Curve 2 5G offer will run from 21 September – 31 October 2026 across the country.
