Juja MP George Koimburi Arrested Over Explosive Raila AUC Claims

Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi has been arrested and taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Headquarters for interrogation following his controversial allegations that the government spent KSh 13 billion on Raila Odinga’s failed bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship.

The dramatic arrest has sparked a political firestorm, with Koimburi’s allies decrying it as an attempt to silence dissent.

Senator Karungo Speaks Out

Kiambu County Senator Karungo Wa Thangwa, who rushed to the DCI headquarters upon learning of the arrest, confirmed that Koimburi was being held but insisted that no official charge had been presented.

“I’m currently at DCI headquarters in solidarity with Hon. George Koimburi, MP for Juja, who has been arrested and detained without an official charge sheet. Nani complainant? Wanasema ni STATE accusing him of cybercrime over something he verbally said—absolutely absurd,” Thangwa declared.

The senator further accused the government of employing intimidation tactics against its critics.

“These are the same intimidation tactics Kasongo is using to silence critics. We will not be cowed or bowed. #ReleaseKoimburi,” he added defiantly.

Did Koimburi’s Explosive Claims Trigger His Arrest?

Koimburi’s arrest comes just days after he alleged that the government had spent KSh 13 billion in a bid to push Raila Odinga’s candidacy for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship—a claim that has not been officially verified.

His remarks caused an uproar in political circles, with critics demanding proof and government officials dismissing the allegations as baseless. Now, with his sudden arrest, speculation is mounting that he is being targeted for his outspoken nature.

Growing Pressure for His Release

As news of the arrest spreads, pressure is mounting on authorities to provide clarity on the charges or release the MP. His supporters have taken to social media, with the hashtag #ReleaseKoimburi gaining momentum.

DCI Yet to Comment

Despite the widespread public interest, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has not issued any official statement regarding the arrest. It remains unclear whether Koimburi will be formally charged or released without further action.
