Victor Kanyari has said his decision to vie for the Kasarani parliamentary seat is driven by personal ambition rather than what he described as a divine calling.
The controversial preacher said he chose to enter politics out of his own desire to serve residents, challenging the common narrative among religious leaders who often frame political ambitions as being spiritually inspired.
“I was not called by God to serve. I am the one who wanted to serve, and I know the Lord will in turn use me for His glory,” he said.

Kanyari also appeared to take aim at former presidential aspirant Pius Muiru, referencing his previous attempt to win the presidency, which was unsuccessful.
“I won’t lie to you like Pastor Pius Muiru that I was called to serve as the President of the Republic of Kenya,” he added.
The remarks have sparked discussion online about the involvement of clergy in politics, with mixed reactions from Kenyans as the Kasarani political contest begins to take shape.
