Deputy President William Ruto has announced that Mathira Member of Parliament Rigathi Gachagua as his running mate.
The Mathira legislator beat Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki,Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, Kandara MP Alice Wahome, and National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi to the position after a myriad of considerations after a robust discussion at Ruto’s Karen residence.
This brings to an end months of heightened anxiety and speculation over his deputy choice.
Ruto was expected to name his deputy on Saturday, May 14, 2022, but the announcement was postponed after an alleged standoff between two rival camps.
Gachagua went to Kabiruini Primary School for his primary education, went to Kianyaga High School for his secondary school education and University Of Nairobi for a Bachelor of Arts Degree and Literature
Gachagua is also a brother to the Late Nyeri County Governor the late Nderitu Gachagua
