Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna is on Friday, October 30, expected to unveil a new leadership team for the Linda Mwananchi political outfit as he moves to establish a national political machinery ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The launch, scheduled to take place at the movement's new headquarters in Lavington, Nairobi, will also mark the unveiling of its presidential campaign command centre, which is expected to coordinate political operations, mobilisation and campaign strategy.

Sifuna is expected to announce a section of the party's national officials, establish key campaign structures and open the political outfit to aspirants seeking its ticket in the next General Election.

The development signals a new phase in the senator's political ambitions following his fallout with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), where he previously served as secretary-general.

Leaders Tipped for Linda Mwananchi Party Positions

Several political figures have been linked to positions in the proposed national leadership as Sifuna's camp moves to establish a team to manage the party's political and administrative affairs.

Among those tipped for key positions are Suba South MP Caroli Omondi, Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, former Law Society of Kenya president Faith Odhiambo, former Makadara MP Reuben Ndolo and Mavoko MP Patrick Makau.

Pauline Njoroge, who was recently appointed interim head of communications for the movement, is also expected to play a role in its communication structure.

The movement is expected to unveil a partial list of national officials, leaving room for additional appointments as it seeks to accommodate more political figures in the coming months.

The proposed structure will include standing committees, among them a National Elections Board (NEB) expected to oversee party primaries and a resource mobilisation committee tasked with coordinating campaign fundraising.

Rigathi Gachagua, Kalonzo Musyoka Among Opposition Leaders Invited

The launch is also expected to attract attention from the wider opposition as political leaders continue consultations ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Among the opposition figures reportedly invited are former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, DAP-K Party Leader Eugene Wamalwa, Jubilee Party leader Fred Matiang'i, Democratic Party leader Justin Muturi and People's Liberation Party leader Martha Karua.

Sifuna's engagement with opposition leaders has intensified in recent weeks as different political formations explore the possibility of working together and settling on a joint presidential candidate to challenge President William Ruto.

Last week, the Nairobi senator held a meeting with Gachagua at his Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri, in an engagement that attracted political attention amid growing discussions about opposition unity.

However, attendance at Friday's event by the invited opposition leaders had not been independently confirmed in the reports published ahead of the launch.

Sifuna Targets Offices in All 47 Counties

Beyond establishing a national headquarters in Nairobi, the Linda Mwananchi team is targeting a nationwide political network.

Funyula MP Wilberforce Oundo has indicated that the movement intends to establish offices in all 47 counties by December 2026 as it prepares to expand its grassroots presence.

The party is also developing an interactive online platform through which aspirants seeking its ticket will be able to submit applications.

The proposed platform is expected to provide a formal channel for politicians interested in contesting elective positions under the party's banner.

The movement is also preparing to hold a National Delegates Convention (NDC) on November 13, 2026, to finalise the rebranding process and ratify changes to its leadership.

The convention is expected to consider important party decisions, including possible pre-election coalition agreements with other opposition formations.

TEP Rebranding to Linda Mwananchi Faces Regulatory Process

Friday's event comes after Sifuna and his allies settled on The Equitable Party (TEP) as their political vehicle following disagreements within ODM.

The party was unveiled on October 4, 2026, with Sifuna presented as its leader and preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election.

The movement subsequently initiated the process of changing the party's name to Linda Mwananchi Movement (LMM), seeking to align its official political identity with the movement that has gained recognition among its supporters.

The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) initiated the statutory process for the proposed name change after receiving the necessary documents from the party.

However, the proposed rebranding encountered an objection from the Liberty National Democratic Alliance (LINDA), which challenged the adoption of the name Linda Mwananchi Movement.

The regulatory process is therefore an important part of the movement's efforts to establish its preferred political identity ahead of the next election.

Babu Owino and Orengo Pursue Separate Political Vehicles

Even as Sifuna works to establish a national political structure, the wider Linda Mwananchi political camp is experiencing developments involving other prominent figures.

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has acquired the Muungano Party for rebranding into The Mwananchi Party, while Siaya Governor James Orengo has launched the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).

The development comes as different political figures associated with the movement explore their own political platforms ahead of the 2027 elections.

This presents a significant organisational question for the wider camp as its leaders seek to coordinate their political ambitions and possible cooperation arrangements.

Kwale Rally to Follow Nairobi Headquarters Launch

Immediately after Friday's Nairobi event, the Linda Mwananchi team is expected to head to Kwale County for a political rally on Saturday, October 31.

The movement is also planning activities in Turkana as it seeks to expand its grassroots presence beyond its traditional political support bases.

Additionally, Sifuna is expected to undertake a United States tour beginning November 19, 2026, to engage Kenyans living in the diaspora.

The planned engagements form part of the movement's wider strategy to build a nationwide political network and mobilise support ahead of the 2027 General Election.

For Sifuna, the unveiling of the national headquarters and leadership team represents another step towards transforming Linda Mwananchi into an organised political outfit as he seeks to position himself in the race for the opposition's presidential ticket.
