Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has taken his Linda Mwananchi Movement grassroots mobilisation campaign to Ukunda, Kwale County, as opposition leaders intensify efforts to build a united political front ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Sifuna, accompanied by Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and other political leaders, led a series of engagements across Kwale on Sunday, November 1, 2026, culminating in a major rally in Ukunda.

The mobilisation is part of Linda Mwananchi's ambitious plan to establish a political presence across all 47 counties before the next general election.

According to The Standard, the delegation toured several areas, including Samburu, Kinango, Kwale town, Kombani and Lunga Lunga before holding its main gathering in Ukunda.

One of the major developments during the visit was the opening of the Linda Mwananchi County office in Kwale.

Sifuna is targeting representation in all 47 counties by the end of November. He has indicated that the movement already has representatives in 38 counties.

Daily Nation reports that the movement is prioritising nationwide membership registration and the establishment of grassroots structures as it seeks to expand its political influence beyond Nairobi.

The Nairobi senator also used the Kwale visit to raise concerns about the management of land and natural resources in the Coast region.

He particularly questioned the handling of mineral deposits at Mrima Hill, demanding transparency over agreements involving the valuable resources.

According to Citizen Digital, Sifuna and other Linda Mwananchi leaders questioned the government's involvement in the controversial mineral project and called for public disclosure of the agreements.

The senator maintained that local communities should not be sidelined when decisions involving their land and natural resources are being made.

Meanwhile, Babu Owino delivered one of the day's most significant political messages by calling for unity among opposition leaders.

The Embakasi East MP urged Sifuna, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i to sit together and agree on one presidential candidate to challenge President William Ruto in 2027.

The Standard reported that Babu warned that opposition leaders needed to resolve their differences and settle on a common candidate rather than allowing competing presidential ambitions to weaken their chances.

The call comes amid growing political discussions about who should lead the opposition in the next general election.

People Daily has also reported on Linda Mwananchi's growing grassroots mobilisation in Kwale, including its engagement with local political aspirants and plans to establish county structures.

The latest mobilisation follows the unveiling of the movement's Nairobi headquarters on October 31, an event that exposed disagreements among opposition leaders.

During the launch, Kalonzo Musyoka faced jeering from sections of the crowd after cautioning against prematurely declaring Sifuna the opposition's presidential candidate.

The incident highlighted the growing political tension surrounding the movement, particularly as some supporters appear determined to position Sifuna for a bigger national leadership role.

Capital FM has separately reported on Sifuna's emphasis on discipline, respect for grassroots leaders and the need to give local communities a voice in the movement's political activities.

The Kwale mobilisation also coincided with ODM's separate political rally at Jacaranda Grounds in Nairobi, highlighting the competing political activities unfolding within the country's opposition landscape.

Looking ahead, Linda Mwananchi is scheduled to hold its National Delegates Convention on November 13 to formalise its leadership and organisational structures.

With the movement expanding its county presence and opposition leaders debating the question of a single presidential candidate, the developments in Kwale could become significant in shaping the country's political realignments ahead of 2027.

The biggest question remains whether Sifuna can transform Linda Mwananchi's growing grassroots mobilisation into a united opposition movement capable of challenging Ruto in the next election.
