Gachagua made the remarks on Sunday, November 1, 2026, during a church service at PCEA Kamangu in Kikuyu, Kiambu County, where he addressed several political and economic issues surrounding the government.
One of his major concerns involved the KSh200 billion Rironi-Mau Summit highway project, whose construction progress has recently attracted public attention.
Gachagua challenged Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir's explanation that disruptions in bitumen supplies had contributed to delays in the construction works.
According to People Daily, the former Deputy President claimed that Chinese government officials had declined to finance the project because they considered it politically risky ahead of the 2027 General Election.
He further alleged that the government had channelled KSh30 billion from the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), which holds workers' retirement savings, to two Chinese companies involved in the project.
Gachagua identified China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) and Shandong among the companies and questioned the legality of the financial arrangements.
He warned that the companies' directors and NSSF officials could face legal consequences over the alleged transactions.
The accusations came a day after Chirchir inspected the ongoing construction works on Saturday, October 31, and announced that the Rironi-Naivasha section was expected to open to motorists in December.
Y News also reported on the disagreement, highlighting Gachagua's challenge to the government's explanation for the construction delays.
The former Deputy President also raised another serious allegation concerning the proposed extension of the Standard Gauge Railway from Naivasha through Kisumu to Malaba.
According to People Daily, Gachagua accused Ruto and his associates of demanding a KSh50 billion commission from Chinese companies in exchange for facilitating the railway project.
He claimed that the alleged demand discouraged the Chinese firms from financing the extension, leaving the project without the expected financial support.
Gachagua challenged the President to make the signed railway financing agreement public so Kenyans could examine the arrangements behind the proposed extension.
However, he did not present publicly verifiable documentary evidence to substantiate the alleged commission demand.
Beyond the infrastructure controversies, Gachagua also defended Kalonzo Musyoka against growing efforts by government leaders to persuade the Wiper leader to join Ruto's political camp.
The Star reported that Gachagua declared himself Kalonzo's family spokesperson and urged the President's allies to stop approaching the former Vice-President with political offers.
He maintained that he had spent considerable time with Kalonzo and believed the Wiper leader remained committed to the opposition.
Capital FM also reported on Gachagua's warning to Ruto's allies, noting that he had invited anyone seeking to negotiate with Kalonzo to approach him at his Wamunyoro residence.
His remarks come amid growing political discussions surrounding Kalonzo's position in the opposition following his recent disagreement with supporters of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna during the Linda Mwananchi Movement launch.
The Sunday church service also attracted attention following claims by PCEA Kamangu Reverend James Kabue that he had received threats over his decision to host Gachagua.
TUKO.co.ke reported that the clergyman had received the alleged threats from Thursday and temporarily left the church before Gachagua's arrival, using a friend's vehicle to avoid attracting attention.
He eventually returned to preside over the service despite concerns about possible consequences, including losing his position.
Citizen Digital separately reported Gachagua's accusations that President Ruto and Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wah were involved in intimidating church leaders over his planned attendance.
The developments have added another dimension to the growing political confrontation between Gachagua and the Kenya Kwanza administration as leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The allegations concerning the road financing, railway commission and political intimidation remain claims made by Gachagua and the affected parties' responses are important in establishing the full picture.
